The protesters of Tampa’s own version of the Occupy Wall Street movement have taken the meaning of the word “occupy” to heart, and a small community of sleeping bags has popped up on the edges of Curtis Hixon Park.
The campers rely on their fellow protesters for food and security, and a table piled high with supplies stands about five feet away from the pillars they sleep against. After a police-enforced wake up call at 8 a.m., protesters gather their numbers in preparation for their march to City Hall to occupy the Oct. 20 city council meeting.
